You could breed several different monsters that would help you, still earn some coins, and probably still earn the same monsters from the maze you would have if you only bred TEs. Breeding is a costly process so this is best left until much later, when filling out the Monster Book becomes your priority. What I like about the game is that you get to mix breeding with combat, making it quite an interesting game.
